PASIGHAT, Feb 5: Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs, the East Siang Police arrested five drug peddlers identified as Maco Koyu, Taken Koyu, Raju Pegu, Biju Pegu and Putul Doley and recovered contraband substance from their possession.
East Siang Superintendent of Police, Sumit Kumar Jha informed that a police team apprehended two suspected drug peddlers during routine Naka and ILP checking drive near Poba Forest Reserve on February 2 last. During the search operation, 1.27 gm of contraband suspected to be Heroin was recovered from their possession and FIR was registered accordingly under section 21(A) NDPS Act. On February 3, two more peddlers were arrested near Rayang Millitary Station after disclosure statement of the arrested accused. 
The SP added that follow up action yielded fruitful result. Trap was laid at Murkong-Selek Railway Station, Jonai (Assam) and one more peddler who had come with large quantity of contraband for transaction was nabbed by the same police team of Ruksin where 63.9 gm of contraband suspected to be Heroine was recovered from his possession.
SP Jha appreciated the team's swift action and brilliant display of professionalism. At the same time he urged the general public to join hands with the police in the fight against drug abuse in East Siang in particular. "Instead of hesitating, people should reach out to the police as their support and cooperation could make a difference," he said and assured utmost confidentiality and secrecy of informers.
