ITANAGAR, Jan 4: An astounding rupees 64 lakhs was collected for traffic violations last year in the Itanagar Capital Region while sixteen thousand violations were reported.
This was informed by Superintendent of Police ICR , Jimmy Chiram while distributing windshield jackets  provided by a well-wisher to the Itanagar Traffic Wardens (ITW), working under Itanagar police department at the office of the DySP Traffic Cell here on Tuesday. 
Addressing reporters, the SP said the jackets were a New Year gift from a well-wisher to the police department as a mark of encouragement for the untiring work towards traffic management within Itanagar Capital Region (ICR).
Speaking on the endeavour of the traffic department in creating awareness among the public to abide by traffic rules, Chiram said the department is keen on two prospects of traffic management-- awareness  and enforcement.  
The department has been continuously conducting roadside paathshala and in the last two months 20 sessions of roadside awareness programme have been conducted.  
“In terms of enforcement, 16 thousand violations have been reported last year. In all, the department has collected 64 lakhs as fine, in which 12 lakhs is related to court challan, informing the money has been deposited in the state exchequer.

Chiram has also appealed to the public to go through modified laws for two and four-wheelers. And also, carry requisite documents while driving and follow the set rules under MV Act.
