ITANAGAR, Sep 7: The 8th edition of the Dorjee Khandu Memorial State Badminton Championship (DKMSBC) is scheduled to be held at Ita-Pulu Indoor Badminton Stadium, Roing-Lower Dibang Valley from October 19-23 next, informed Arunachal State Badminton Association (ASBA) today.
Addressing media persons at the Press Club here on Tuesday, Secretary Tournament, Nich Bapu said that besides participants from 27 districts, players from the Sangay Lhaden Sports Academy, the Capital Complex Badminton Association and Arunachal Pradesh Police Sports Control Board will also be competing in the championship.
An estimated 1500 participants (778 male and 774 female) are expected from 27 affiliated districts competing in the weeklong championship, which is being organized by the Arunachal State Badminton Association (ASBA) and sponsored by the state’s sports department
“The winner of the championship will be selected to represent the state in regional and national competition events organized by the Badminton Association of India (BAI)," he said, and informed that there will be five categories in the championship, ranging from U-13, U-15, U-17, U-19 and Senior games.
Entries of each affiliated unit against each category shall be; two each of Men’s and Women’s Single, and one each of Men’s, Women’s and Mixed Doubles. However, top eight men’s singles, top four women’s singles, top four men/women double and mixed double state ranking players will get direct entry in the tournament. Also, the host association will get two extra quotas in men’s and women’s single events and one extra quota in doubles.
Bapu said that the tournament will be refereed by six national umpires and thirty state umpires. He also informed that match result and fixture schedule will be available in www.tournamentssoftware.com authorised by Badminton World Federation (BWF).
The tournament will be held following strict Covid-19 protocols by making RT-PCR test mandatory for all individuals involved in the tournament and public audience will be prohibited.
