ITANAGAR, Jul 1:

 

 

A major chunk of the road of the Itanagar -Naharlagun (NH415) near Dree ground was washed away today thereby completely blocking the road network between Itanagar and Naharlagun.

The incessant rain for last couple of days have put life out of gear  in the state capital city by severely damaging road communication, affecting water pipelines and disrupting other basic essential services. Similar damages are being reported from various districts. 

Chief Minister Pema Khandu accompanied by Itanagar MLA Techi Kaso, Commissioner, PWD Bilatee Pertin, Secretary Disaster Management Jokey Angu, CE(Highways) Toli Basar and EE (Highways) and DC Capital took visited the block site today.

During the inspection, CM discussed about the measures to be taken to open the road for traffic at the earliest. The Departmental officers present on the spot informed the CM that required Tools & Plants was called for and will be deployed on the spot to start the restoration works. 

 

CM directed the Departmental officers to start the work on war footing today itself so that the vital road is restored for vehicular movements within a day or two considering the heavy traffic in between Naharlagun-Jullang-Itanagar road. 

 

He also directed the  MLA Itanagar and Secretary Disaster Management present on the spot to take all measures for safety of dwellers along the stream below the damaged road as it was flowing in full spate. He also directed the Secretary (DM) and DC Capital to inspect all the damages and vulnerable areas in the Capital complex and to submit a report immediately. Secretary DM was also directed to monitor and report on rain damages in the whole of State round the clock. 

 

In the wake of warning issued by India Meteorological Department of Ministry of Earth Sciences predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places over Arunachal Pradesh starting 30th June to 4th of July, Chief Minister has appealed the citizens to stay in alertness and preparedness. While directing the district administration to immediately evacuate people leaving in vulnerable areas to safer places, CM said that adequate stock of ration, medicine and other essential commodities should be ensured. He further asked to keep round the clock watch on the situation in order to avert any catastrophe.

 

Meanwhile the Disaster Management department has been directed to monitor the situation and work out mitigation plans to deal with any eventualities.
