ITANAGAR, Jan 17:  The road blockade at Leporiang was lifted today after a joint meeting of East Kameng Social welfare & Cultural Organization (EKSWCO), ANYA, NES and elite of Leporiang circle through local customary law between East Kameng & Papumpare district in a meeting held at Raik village.
EKSWCO in its press communiqué condemned the road blockade and unprovoked attacks on commuters from East Kameng following an altercation between two individuals.
Since then, despite it being a personal matter, some sections at Leporiang started targeting vehicles coming to and from East Kameng district, harassing innocent commuters, the EKSWCO said.
Expressing concern over halting  and damaging of vehicles  in presence of  Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs, Mama Natung  on January 16 last who was traveling on the said route,  EKSCWO said, innocent commuters of East Kameng have nothing to do with the alleged scuffle and the general public of the district cannot be held at ransom for no fault of theirs. The national highway is not the personal property of any individual or group. It should not be used as weapon to commit acts of revenge against any individual or community.
Society  also urged the  State Government to  issue clear cut notification to the people residing along the highway that any person blocking the highway will be booked as per relevant sections of law and suo moto case registered.
