ITANAGAR, Nov 19: Tatung Taga, convenor of the All Arunachal Pradesh Student Union (AAPSU), who has been accused of allegedly creating a ruckus at the Ramakrishna Mission Hospital, Itanagar, recently clarified that after hospital management refused to admit his sick daughter he vented his frustration at a landline phone placed nearby.
He also clarified that he did not intentionally break the landline phone nor has any enmity against anyone from the hospital management, but the incident is the result of a father's emotional resentment against the irresponsible attitude of the hospital staff.
Earlier the Indian Medical Association (IMA) state unit also condemned the alleged vandalism at RKMH and demanded strict against Taga. Later, the RKMH management also filed an FIR against Taga.
Meanwhile, several students’ leaders representing various organizations which include All Nyishi Students Union, All Nyishi Youth Association, etc accompanying the AAPSU convener have demanded the immediate transfer of the Secretary, Ramakrishna Mission Hospital (RKMH) and sought disciplinary action against the doctors and nurses involved in the incident.
In a press conference, Taga lamented that "being the head of the hospital the Swamiji should have amicably solved the problem by contacting AAPSU executives or convening a meeting instead of registering an FIR".
“Had the doctor and nurses on duty that day administered prompt steps and provide a room for my daughter, the incident would not have occurred," he said, adding that a public hospital cannot operate like that.
He also said the main reason when he got angry was when the doctors and the nurse showed careless attitude when he brought his ailing daughter to the hospital. “Any father in that situation would have done the same thing as what I did," he lamented.
Terming the case an act of medical negligence, AAPSU Editor, Risso Kiagung informed that a joint committee was formed by AAPSU to unearth the truth behind the incident.
He also said that during the preliminary inquiry the committee dug out several allegations of mismanagement of corpus fund, faulty practices by the authority, high fees charged from patients for laboratory checkups, etc. He also said the committee recorded several complaints by patients who had gone through hardships as Taga in availing health care facilities at the hospital.
He also asked the Indian Medical Association (IMA) state who came in support of RKMH hospital management to verify the fact before leveling any accusation, especially against AAPSU in media. Stating that a hospital must strive to provide a safe, therapeutic environment for patients, Kiagung said if the concerned authority failed to fulfill their demands they would initiate a legal course of action against the hospital management.
“Very soon the report of the joint committee will be submitted as a memorandum to the main head of the RKMH also,” he further added.
