ITANAGAR, Nov 25: Intellectual Forum of North East organized a two day national symposium - Gyan Sangam titled “Arunachal Pradesh: from known to unknown” at Art of Living, Jollang from November 24-25 with its central objective to know Arunachal Pradesh from indigenous perspective and to develop intellectual knowledge which will be adequate enough to create indigenous narratives through discussions in various disciplines.
In the Valedictory Programme, Governor of Meghalaya, Tathagata Roy, who was the Chief Guest highlighted the important aspects of Northeast India particularly Arunachal Pradesh as potential tourist hotspot. He opined that due to lack of proper individual knowledge there are cultural and ethnic differences in India. He emphasized that we must protect the cultural ethos of indigenous people of Arunachal Pradesh.
Minister of State for Home Affairs, Kiren Rijiju delivered Keynote Speech on “Inclusive Cultural Ethos of Arunachal Pradesh” where he emphasized on cultural heritage of Arunachal Pradesh and importance of its preservation. He said that the tribal community has a strong indigenous knowledge system which we must document directly from ‘Nyibu’ not from western writers.
He asserted that influence of western culture has adulterated the ceremonies of tribal festivals which is our identity. Rijiju also emphasized on historical construct of relationships and linkages of Arunachal to the other parts of the country.
Deputy Chief Minister of Tripura, Jishnu Dev Varma, addressing as a Special Guest said ‘We have Rajbala as source of history of Tripura written seven hundred years back but when it comes to Arunachal there is no such written source of history.’ He urged the academicians and researchers to extract the history of Arunachal through oral sources.
