ITANAGAR, Jul 26: The members of the Riders Community on Sunday conducted a voluntary blood donation camp that led to the collection of a total of 13 units of blood which were contributed to the RK Mission Hospital.
The team was led by Chairman, Arunachal Voluntary Blood Donors' Organization (AVBDO) Ramesh Jeke and the members were from Royal Arunachal Riders (RAR), Arunachal Bullet Club (ABC) and The Gliding Piranhas (TGP) and others. The AVBDO has been continuing its in-house blood donation camp at the RK Mission Hospital premises since the first lockdown was announced in March.Thanking the blood donors for their generous contribution towards humanity, Jeke pointed out that besides impacting the public health system, social welfare and economy, the unprecedented Covid crisis has also caused enormous blood shortage in the state.
Requesting all to donate blood to save lives, Jeke clarified that blood donation does not expose an individual to the risk of contacting Covid-19 and AVBDO with support of the staffers of the RK Mission Hospital is taking all precautions to ensure safety of the donors. "We have so far  conducted 40 blood camps since the lockdown started in March and have collected more than 1400 units including Sunday’s collection,”  Jeke informed.
Tufan Techi, a member of the ABC said he voluntarily came forward to donate blood and motivate other fellow riders including non-riders after seeing a post on social media that many patients amid the lockdown are facing difficulty in getting blood.
“We all should shoulder responsibility with the DA in the fight against Covid-19. But the greater responsibility at the moment is to save the lives of sick persons needing blood," Techi pointed out.
