RONO HILLS, Jun 17: Rajiv Gandhi University Teachers’ Association (RGUTA) today distributed food essentials and cleanliness materials amounting to around Rs 1 lakh to the 110 labour community families residing in the RGU micro containment zone.
The Executive Committee members of the RGUTA with help from the RGU COVID-19 Task Force led by Professor Sumpam Thangjang handed over the items to the beneficiaries of the labour colony located around F Sector. It is pertinent to mention that the Association had generated over Rs 1.6 lakh rupees during a weeklong donation drive led by its former President Professor Jumyir Basar and incumbent President Dr. Daniel Mize. The said labour colony was declared as a Micro Containment Zone by the state government following detection of around 30 COVID positive cases through mass RATs. It has been reported that currently there are around 40 COVID positive cases in the RGU campus.
Almost the entire teaching community of the varsity contributed wholeheartedly during the donation drive and over sixty thousand rupees have been kept reserved for providing relief to such economically weaker families if there is a further emergence of COVID cases.
