ITANAGAR, Dec 15:   Continuing with their steadfast objections over the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) 2019, the Rajiv Gandhi University Students’ Union (RGUSU) and the Students’ Union of NERIST (SUN) in a joint press conference termed the Act as communal, detrimental and anti-national.
Addressing media persons here at Press Club on Sunday, RGUSU President Dopum Sonam said that the BJP government intends to ignite a communal flare in the country and the entire Northeast in particular.
"Central government is employing all efforts to make India a ‘Hindu’ nation by imposing CAA despite strong protests," Sonam alleged, adding that the union will not let this happen and fight till the last breath. He further urged the state government to come clear on the status of Chakma-Hajong and Tibetan refugees settled in Arunachal Pradesh.
"Union will not bow down until government scraps the Act and for this, we may initiate legal procedure if needed," he said.
The RGUSU President also categorically said that central government must adopt the BEFR-1873 into an Act under Article 371 (A) and impose the same in entire Northeast. He also urged Home Minister Bamang Felix to discontinue the Hamara Arunachal Abhiyaan (HAA) and instead, intensify Arunachal Bachao Abhiyaan (ABA).
While supporting the demand for scrapping the CAA from Northeast, President SUN Tadar Mamang asserted that if state government fails to pay heed to their demands, they may resort to state-wide democratic movement with the support of all universities and colleges of the Northeast. However, even if all these fail, we will take the protests to the national level, he stressed.

"It is disheartening that the central government instead of focusing on a trembling GDP is engineering a divide and rule policy  through this draconian legislation with the sole motive to transform India into a Hindu nation," Mamang lamented.

RGUSU General Secretary Kumar Rai while slamming the Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Kiren Rijiju and MP- Arunachal (East) Tapir Gao for igniting tension in the state, also appealed them to express their real views on BEFR 1873 and CAA, instead of  propagating party ideologies to impress upon the party’s top brass.
