Indian Army conducts ‘Know Your Army’ outreach
ITANAGAR, Dec 16: Governor Brig. (Dr.) B.D. Mishra (Retd.), Chief Minister Pema Khandu, Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein and a host of dignitaries today participated in the national e-Conclave organised by the Rajiv Gandhi University as a part of its Vijay Diwas celebration.
With the e-conclave’s topic being ‘Valour of Indian Armed Forces and Ending the Genocide by the Pakistan Army in Bangladesh on 16 December, 1971: Socio-Political Ramifications in South Asia’ and having fought the war himself, the Governor while presiding over the virtual event from Raj Bhavan went down the memory lane. Attributing the Indian victory in the 1971 Indo-Pak war to the free hand given to the army led by one of India’s best military commander, General (later Field Marshal) Sam Manekshaw, the Governor justified the appointment of General Bipin Rawat as the Chief of Defence Staff and welcomed the free hand given to the nation’s defence forces in countering the recent misadventures by Pakistan and China across the border. Giving insightful details of the war and the barbarism committed by Pakistani Army on the civilians of East Pakistan, he said the 13-day war caused a huge impact on the political and socio-economic affairs in Southeast Asia. Joining the e-conclave as Chief Guest, the Chief Minister while terming the triumph of 1971 as one of the biggest victories ever for the Indian Army highlighted the bonhomie between army personnel and state’s people. Arunachal Pradesh is the state which has displayed the best civilian-army relationship in the entire nation, he added.
