RONO HILLS, Feb 10: Bioinformatics Centre (BIFC), Faculty of Life Sciences of Rajiv Gandhi University with support from the Department of Biotechnology, GoI organized an intensive workshop on ‘Computational Biology & Basics in Bioinformatics’ here at the varsity from February 7-10.
Meant for research scholars of the Faculty of Life Sciences, the workshop was aimed to develop computational skills of data analysis under different research design protocols including observational and experimental. During the 32-hour intensive learning, research scholars were provided with skills on computation aided with software and theoretical concepts of statistical tools. The programme was unique in the sense it tried to develop a strong background on the subject of “Statistics”, but “free from Mathematical Complexity”.
The lectures in the 4-day workshop were delivered by Professor Gyan Prakash Singh from the Department of Statistics, Institute of Science, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi and the methods of providing knowledge for data analysis were highly appreciated by the participants.
RGU Vice-Chancellor Professor Saket Kushwaha while attending the valedictory function encouraged the participants to aim towards perfection and appreciated the efforts of Co-ordinator, BIF Centre Professor R.K. Singh for conducting the academic skills enhancing programme for researchers.
VC also gave away participation certificates to the 24 trainees. Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Amitava Mitra while appreciating the efforts and commitments of the expert and the learners emphasized on conducting more such programmes involving relevant research variables. Registrar In-charge Dr. David Pertin said the university will go a step forward with increase in knowledge resource base through this workshop and also suggested for training of trainers so that knowledge percolates further.
