Rono Hills, Dec 15: Rajiv Gandhi University will be observing Vijay Diwas to pay tribute to the war heroes of the 1971 Indo-Pak war on Wednesday through a slew of events here at its campus in virtual presence of Governor and the varsity’s Chief Rector Brigadier (Dr.) B.D. Mishra (Retd.), Chief Minister Pema Khandu, Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein and a galaxy of personalities.
The varsity’s departments of Social Work and Sociology are jointly organizing a one-day online national e-conclave on the theme ‘Valour of Indian Armed Forces and Ending the Genocide by the Pakistan Army in Bangladesh on 16 December, 1971: Socio-Political Ramifications in South Asia’ wherein the Governor will preside. The CM and DCM will join the e-conclave as Chief Guest and Guest of Honour respectively. Lt. General, R.P. Kalita, AVSM, SM, VSM, GOC 3 Corps will be the keynote speaker and Air Marshal (Retd.) Pranab Kumar Barbora and former RGU Chancellor will be the Special Guest. The e-conclave which will be broadcast live through Google Meet platform aims to benefit the academia, researchers, students, NCC cadets and armed forces personnel through informative, brainstorming and thought-provoking deliberations by leading personalities of the armed forces. The intended beneficiaries include Principals of colleges, educators and learners from NCC units, Sainik Schools, Social Science researchers and development professionals located across the Northeast.
A ceremonial homage to the martyrs will be conducted at the site of the ‘Wall of Heroes’ and all faculty members and officials of the varsity will take part in floral tribute ceremony.
