Rono Hills, Feb 2: Rajiv Gandhi University, the lone central university of the state will celebrate its 40th Foundation day on February 4 next. The university is entering into its 4th decade of existence completing 39 glorious years of serving the state producing many intellectual minds in all spheres of society. Being the most sought-after place of higher learning in the state, the university has graciously dedicated the last many years to the various expectations of its students, their parents and all the stakeholders.
The foundation stone for RGU (then Arunachal University) was laid by the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on 4th February 1984. The university, which started with only three departments, 49 students and 18 faculty members, was converted into a Central University in 9 April, 2007.
In the run-up to the grand celebrations on 4th February, many other programmes such as sports and literary competitions are being conducted.
On the evening of 3rd February, a special film screening will be held wherein the film “I killed my son” will be showcased. Group dance competitions and rendition of popular songs by renowned artists will be the highlight on 4th evening. The university is also putting up stalls for exhibition cum sale of books, local artifacts, food cuisines, art, and decorative items, etc.
Arunachal Pradesh Governor who is the Chief Rector of the University, Brig. B.D. Mishra will grace the occasion as the chief guest while Prof. KK Agarwal, founder and former Vice Chancellor of GGSIU(Guru Govind Singh Indraprastha University), Delhi will deliver the foundation day lecture and Dr. Sarup Prasad Ghosh, Director of MAKAIAS, Kolkata will grace the occasion as special guest while the programme will be presided over by the Vice-Chancellor of RGU Prof. Saket Kushwaha. The retired employees of RGU and medal winners in national level sports events for RGU will also be felicitated during the function.
