ITANAGAR, Jun 29:Following the state government’s assurance the Students’ union of RGU has cancelled its boycott of the new admission process of the university. Earlier, on June 5 last the union while serving a ten day ultimatum to the state Government over the dilapidated road condition of the road from Emchi point to RGU gate today had announced the boycott.

PWD, Western Zone, Chief Engineer Katung Wahge who called the meeting at the behest of the DCM cum PWD Minister Chowna Mein termed the demand for good road as genuine. Acknowledging that educational institute like RGU which is the epicenter of generating knowledge and human resource should have good roads, he assured to fulfill the demand but sought time for it.

 ‘The proposed alternative approach road from Rono to RGU will be given immense importance and executed next year,’ the CE said while directing the Executive Engineer Doimukh to prepare the DPR and start the survey work soon.

A separate fund was also kept in the State Annual Development Agenda for the survey investigation and DPR preparation for the alternative road. The proposed alternative road which is expected to be of top class will be a 2 lane road which will have advanced street planning techniques like, service corridors for PHE Pipelines and Telecommunication cable, Road dividers, street light planning.

The earth cutting of this alternate route will begin by the end of this year, assured Nabam Tado Executive Engineer, PWD, Doimukh division. Wahge also directed the Executive Engineer to start re-carpeting the existing road from July first week with bituminous mixture and construction of proper drainage systems.

RGUSU General secretary Prem Taba, however said that if the Department fails to start the work by next year the Union will step up its protest.

Later in a separate meeting at Executive Engineer’s office, Tado directed the Junior Engineer to prepare the estimate cost of the maintenance byMonday, i.e July 3 next for the early execution of the work and also to prepare the DPR and systemize the survey work of the alternate road at the earliest.
