RONO HILLS, May 25: Students of Rajiv Gandhi University today held a candlelight march to pay tribute to Late Tirong Aboh, the Khonsa MLA and 10 others who were brutally killed by militants in an ambush on May 21 last.
Students of the university, faculties and AAPSU members walked together in silence holding posters and photos of the victims demanding justice. Assistant Professor of AITS Department Dr Wanglit Mongchan said that the people in Tirap, Changlang and Longding are threatened on a daily basis by the insurgents who do not wish to see development of the region.
AAPSU IPR Secretary Techi Mupu demanded the state government to hand over the case to NIA and sought for permanent uprooting of the underground elements from TLC region. The union’s spokesperson Nefa Wangsa said that the atrocities faced by TLC region needs a permanent political solution.
Health Secretary RGUSU Khiapgi Agi said that democracy and law & order has ceased to exist in the region. RGUSU which organised the march will be submitting a memorandum to the Governor on Monday.
AAPSU AGS Thomas Jerang, its Education Secretary Prem Camdir Tallang, Galo Students’ Union President Mepe Ete, RGU Assistant Professor Lisa Lomdak, research scholars were among others who attended the candlelight march.
