Rono Hills, Aug 3: Rajiv Gandhi University on Monday conducted a condolence meet to express its profound grief on the demise of RD Pradhan, the former Governor of the state and Chancellor of the then Arunachal University.
VC Professor Saket Kushwaha while offering condolence to the departed soul, remembered the former Governor’s role in moulding the university in its initial days when it was known as Arunachal University. Pro VC Professor Amitava Mitra was also present during the condolence meet.
Late Pradhan who breathed his last on July 31 was the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh from March 19, 1987 to March 16, 1990. Born on June 27, 1928 he was an IAS officer of the Maharashtra cadre and had served in Gujarat and Maharashtra. Prior to his appointment as the Governor of the state he was India’s Resident Representative to UNCTAD and GATT and represented the nation for over a decade. During Rajiv Gandhi’s government at the Centre, he held the position of Union Home Secretary and played decisive roles in signing of Punjab Accord, Assam Accord and Mizoram Accord for resolution of unrest in these states.
After the 26/11 attack, he was made the Chairman of the high-level Enquiry Commission. He was awarded the Padma Bhusan in 1987. He penned his administrative experiences through several books namely: 1965 War: The Inside Story; Defence Minister Y. B.
