RONO HILLS, Oct 29: A condolence meeting in honour of Late Professor A.C. Bhagabati, the Ex-Vice Chancellor of RGU, then known as Arunachal University was arranged here in front of the Administrative Block on October 28 last.
RGU Vice Chancellor Professor Saket Kushwaha, former Vice Chancellor Professor Tamo Mibang, Registrar Professor Tomo Riba, all Deans, Directors, HoDs, officers, employees and students attended the meeting. The Ex-VC was remembered as a true gentlemen, a great soul and fatherly figure who contributed much in building the university during his tenure from December 6, 1993 to December 5, 1998. “Though he is not present with us physically, RGU community will always feel his presence who coined the words ‘Rono Hills’ & ‘Ronobians’. We the Ronobians, sincerely pray to Almighty to guide his soul for peaceful rest and give strength to his family members to bear at this hour of loss,” RGU’s condolence message read.
Besides floral tributes by all members, a two-minute silence and prayer was observed. A half-day closure was also declared as a mark of respect to the departed soul.
The RGU Research Scholars’ Forum has expressed grief over the demise of Prof. A. C. Bhagabati, former vice-chancellor of the University who died on October 26 last.
“Absolutely shocked and pained to hear about his death. He was a distinguished anthropologist who created a great intellectual impact on the study of humans and human nature. His research works in the field of anthropology serve as a manual for many young researchers in designing studies, writing papers and reviewing literature in years to come.
