Rono Hills, Sep 6: In a first of its kind initiative, Rajiv Gandhi University celebrated the Teachers’ Day online on Saturday by commemorating the contributions of the two pioneers of education in the history of the varsity and Arunachal Pradesh-Professor Sristidar Dutta and Professor Atul Chandra Talukdar.
It can be recalled that the journey of erstwhile Arunachal University (now Rajiv Gandhi University) started with History and Political Science departments. While the History department was led by Professor Sristidar Dutta, Professor Atul Chandra Talukdar took charge of the Department of Political Science in 1988 and since then although the two departments have come a long way, the contributions of these two stalwarts have remained unmatched.
Professor Dutta in his address recollected his journey of how he sowed the seeds which has now grown into a full-fledged tree. Professor Talukdar was also present on the occasion. Vice Chancellor Professor Saket Kushwaha acknowledged the contributions of these two pioneers and stressed on the need for carrying on the good work done by them. While announcing that every year the process of identifying and celebrating such immeasurable efforts towards the development of the university will continue, he announced a sum of Rs. 11,111 to be presented to such exemplary ‘Gurus’ every year.
