RONO HILLS, Nov 11: Rajiv Gandhi University’s Department of Education observed National Education Day on Wednesday which marked the 132nd birth anniversary of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, the first Education Minister of independent India through a virtual lecture session.
Speaking on the occasion, RGU VC Professor Saket Kushwaha opined that everyday should be viewed as Education Day for achieving the goals of education. Pro VC Professor Amitava Mitra mentioned the educational challenges faced by the country when Maulana Azad took over as the Minister of Education. RGU Registrar Dr. N. T. Rikam opined that although Arunachal Pradesh is not much behind the national level in terms of literacy rate, qualitative aspect is a factor which needs to be maintained. Head, Department of Education Professor Kesang Degi welcomed the dignitaries comprising academicians, scholars, students from universities across the country and members of RGUTA and RGUSU. Former Chairperson, National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) Professor Mohammad Akhtar Siddique elaborated on the personality and vision of Maulana Azad and his contributions towards reconstruction of the education system in post-independent India. Former member, Central Advisory Board of Education (CABE), MHRD, Professor Anil Sadgopal recalled the far sightedness of Kalam and his role in setting up of several important institutions such as the AICTE, IIT Kharagpur, UGC, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and others.
