Doimukh, Mar 13: Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU), in collaboration with the National Institute of Mountaineering and Adventure Sports (NIMAS), hosted a momentous event to formalize their partnership in capacity-building initiatives, which was marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which aims to promote adventure sports and mountaineering activities among students while fostering skill development in these fields on Wednesday.
One of the key highlights of the event was the launch of the NSS Volunteer T-shirt by the Vice Chancellor (Acting) of RGU, Prof. S.K. Nayak, who later delivered an impactful speech reinforcing the university’s commitment to adventure sports and youth development. The VC further added that, this collaboration between RGU and NIMAS is expected to open new opportunities for students to engage in structured mountaineering and adventure training, fostering leadership, teamwork, and endurance. The general objective of this memorandum of understanding is to stimulate and facilitate the development of collaborative and mutually beneficial activities that serve to enhance adventure training and mountaineering capacity for both parties.
While taking part in signing the MoU, Dr. N.T. Rikam, Registrar of RGU, shared his thoughts and support for this initiative and maintained that the collaboration will strengthen the University’s efforts in creating a platform that encourages courage, resilience, and teamwork through adventure activities.
In the backdrop of the MoU signing programme, highlighting the importance of mountaineering and adventure training, the Director of NIMAS Colonel Ranveer Singh Jamwal, Sena Medal (SM), Vishisht Seva Medal (VSM), delivered an inspiring Motivation Talk, encouraging students to embrace challenges and develop resilience through outdoor adventure sports. He also spoke about rescue operations, disaster risk reduction, and water sports and informed about various courses available for interested students and youth, across multiple domains, including water sports, mountaineering, and paragliding. He further emphasized that NIMAS is equipped with top-tier facilities and experienced trainers with vast expertise in these fields.
The Joint Registrar of RGU and Chairperson of the Adventure and Mountaineering Club, of RGU Dr. David Pertin, opined that the association with NIMAS is going to mark a new milestone in a journey towards fostering adventure, skill development, and leadership among the students and employees alike.
Earlier, the Deputy Registrar (Institute of Innovation, Skill, and Youth Development), RGU Gomar Basar presented a brief insight into the RGU NSS activities and adventure club initiatives while the Head of the Department of Social Work and Chairperson, IISYD Dr. K.P. Singh, formally read out the gist of the MoU before the signing ceremony.
