ITANAGAR, Aug 11: A group of master students of Mass Communication and Journalism of Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) demanded the state government to disburse the remaining amount Rs.27, 300.00 under the umbrella scheme of Post-Matric Scholarship (PMS) within a week to the students.
Addressing media persons here at the press club today, Deter Geyi, a student of the respective course presenting grievances over partial disbursement of PSM, said ‘ it is really disheartening that our batch of 2020-22 is a victim of such an injustice.’
She said that Mass Communication is a professional course which falls under group-II category, and as per the fee fixation committee for PMS, the students of the respective course must receive Rs.50,300.00 which is disbursed by the National Scholarship Programme (NSP) every year.
“To our surprise, the batch of 2020-22 have received an amount of just Rs. 23,000 out of 50,300, whereas, the seniors and diploma students of the same department have received the full amount of the same scholarship,” she added.
Meanwhile, another student, Techi Shakti informed that the OSD to the States’ Director of Higher and Technical Education had assured to disburse the remaining amount in the month of June last claiming technical fault has been created by the NSP.
Meanwhile, the students have appealed to the state Education Minister to look into the matter stating ‘the only resort for us is the State’s Director of Higher and Technical Education as our voice cannot reach the Centre.’
