RONO HILLS, May 21: Rajiv Gandhi University joined the rest of the state and nation in observing the Anti Terrorism Day in a blended mode marked by a pledge-taking ceremony here at the campus.
RGU Vice Chancellor Professor Saket Kushwaha while terming the menace of terrorism as “devastating fire” said it's time for all to contribute in strengthening national integration. Hundreds of faculty members, officers, officials, scholars and alumni of the state’s lone central university participated in the pledge-taking ceremony which was administered by Registrar Dr N.T. Rikam and Joint Registrar Dr David Pertin in English and Hindi respectively. Amongst others, Pro-VC Professor Amitava Mitra and Controller of Examinations Dr Bijay Raji attended the programme.
Anti Terrorism Day was observed in Tirap district in various locations organised by the Khonsa Battalion of Assam Rifles and Tirap Police.
Programmes were organised in  Lahu, Lazu, and Noglo villages attended by the locals in large numbers with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervour. Anti-terrorism pledge was taken by the attending villagers, officials and police and Assam Rifles personnel. Villagers of Lahu organised a rally as a mark of protest against the abduction of their Gaon Burah and Raja by the NSCN(K-YA) insurgents on April 1 last
Meanwhile, the children of Noglo village enthusiastically took out a rally to spread the message of peace, humanity, unity and harmony in Tirap district.
Observed annually, Anti Terrorism Day coincides with the death anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi who was assassinated on this day in 1991 by terrorists in Tamil Nadu’s Sriperumbudur. RGU PR, DIPRO
