RONO HILLS, Mar 2: A day-long workshop on ‘Campus Placement and Career Counselling for Civil Services’ was organized on Monday here at the Rajiv Gandhi University campus jointly by the varsity’s Placement and Career Counselling Cells.
The objective of the workshop was to propagate awareness about campus placement and provide career counselling to the varsity students who are also civil service aspirants. 
Around 570 students participated in the programme including those from NERIST, NIT Yupia and Government College Doimukh which was inaugurated by RGU Vice Chancellor Professor Saket Kushwaha as Chief Guest. VC while emphasizing on the importance of placement activities and career counselling centres in RGU, urged upon the varsity community to make it a top class centre of learning to enhance the employability prospects of the students.   
He also released the Placement Bulletin for 2019-20 and emphasized on organizing such workshops quarterly each year henceforth. He said the university is aware of the pains of the students who remain clueless regarding the way forwards after completion of degrees and suggested them to practice SWOT (Strength, Weakness, Opportunity and Threat) analysis to know the weaknesses to work upon and assured to make the university’s civil service and NET coaching programmes more visible in coming days.
RGU Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor Amitava Mitra as Guest of Honour highlighted the background of the establishment of the placement cell. Earlier, Programme Director and Professor In-charge, Placement Cell Professor Tasi Kaye appraised the main purpose of the programme and vote of thanks was delivered by Programme Coordinator Dr. Boa Reena Tok. General Manager (HR), Brahmaputra Cracker and Polymer Limited (BCPL), Dibrugarh Asit Das and senior consultant of Khan Study Group (KSG) Institute for IAS Coaching, New Delhi Dr. Raza Hamid were the Resource Persons. Das while underscoring the importance of campus placement and building better personality by the aspirants, discussed how companies are turning towards higher education institutions to tap the best human resources. Dr. Hamid while motivating the students to focus more on civil services preparation also dwelt at length about the role of coaching institutes towards moulding the aspirants’ mindset for taking civil services exams.
Among others, RGU Placement Officer and Assistant Coordinator of the workshop Dr. Ashok Sharma also spoke. Finance Officer in-Charge Professor Otem Padung, Director of IQAC Professor RC Parida, Joint Registrar Dr. David Pertin, heads of Management, Political Science, Commerce, Education and Electronics & Communication departments, officials, staff and research scholars also attended the workshop.
