RONO HILLS, Sep 3: A one-day national webinar on ‘Women’s Right as Human Rights: Vulnerability and Gender Justice amid Covid Crisis’ was organized by Rajiv Gandhi University’s Department of Social Work in collaboration with the varsity's Department of  Psychology on Thursday. 
Chairing the inaugural session, RGU VC Professor Saket Kushwaha pointed out that at a time when the Indian economy is not in a good shape and the Covid-19 scenario is alarming, the ultimate challenges are faced by the women. He emphasized on the role of family members and grooming of the girl child to eradicate gender discrimination. Pro VC Professor Amitava Mitra highlighted the relevance of gender and women issues in the current scenario and emphasized on gender equality. Convener of the webinar and HoD (In-charge) Social Work, RGU Dr. Kaushalendra Pratap Singh delivered the welcome address.
The webinar’s Coordinator Chaphiak Lowang highlighted the increasing number of reported cases on domestic violence against women since the lockdown in the country according to the National Commission for Women (NCW) findings. HoD, Department of Economics, RGU Professor Vandana Upadhyay, Member of National Commission for Women, Soso Shaiza, Professor in Education and Director of Women Studies and Research Centre- RGU, Professor Elizabeth Hangsing and Advocate and Legal Adviser of Nirbhaya Jyoti Trust Seema Samridhi Kushwaha delivered lectures on their respective topics in the technical sessions.
A total of 100 participants attended the event through Google Meet which included faculty members of various departments of RGU and participants from all over India.  RGU PR
