RONO HILLS, Dec 18: A two-day virtual lecture workshop on ‘Green and Sustainable Chemistry’ sponsored by the joint science education panel composed of members from three major science academies of the country and conducted by the Department of Chemistry, Rajiv Gandhi University concluded here on Friday.
More than 125 delegates from various colleges, universities and institutes across the country participated in the virtual workshop. VC Professor Saket Kushwaha encouraged the participants to take up innovative and socially relevant research in the field of green and sustainable chemistry. Pro VC Professor Amitava Mitra highlighted the relevance of sustainable development vis-à-vis UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for 2030. Honorary Scientist from the Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science (IACS), Kolkata and a pioneer of green and sustainable chemistry research in India Professor Brindaban C. Ranu briefed the participants about science academies and their programmes for promotion of science. Head, Department of Chemistry, RGU Dr. Rajesh Chakrabarty highlighted the steps taken by the department for promotion of science education in Arunachal Pradesh.
Fellows from the three science academies namely Indian Academy of Science (IASc) Bengaluru, Indian National Science Academy (INSA) New Delhi and National Academy of Science India (NASI) Allahabad, distinguished academicians and scientists from IITs, CSIR laboratories, DST institutes and central universities delivered lectures on the emerging areas of green and sustainable chemistry.
