RONO HILLS, Mar 30: Acting on a social media report on the issue of few stranded students in university’s hostels, the RGU administration today held an urgent meeting with all the stakeholders involving officers, and representatives of teachers, students, employees and alumni association at the Vice-Chancellor’s secretariat today.
Expressing surprise at the stranded students in the hostels, the Joint Registrar Dr. David Pertin and the Senior Security Officer of the university Badal Techi in the advice of the competent authority took stock of the situation and inspected the hostels and found that three students were staying in three different hostels, of which two are research scholars and one a master’s student. On the basis of the report, the university took a decision to provide temporary accommodations in one of the vacant teachers’ quarters in the campus after obtaining undertakings from them.
With this the said matter was settled and the university administration has appealed the masses to refrain from lose comments in social media at this hour of crisis. The Registrar in-charge of the university Prof. Tomo Riba said that, “let us be very careful while commenting on any situation. Let us not be driven by emotions. During such serious health related problems, first we must abide by the given protocols and health advisories.
He further informed that, the decisions on closing of classes and hostels were not done suddenly or in a hurried manner, as alleged in social media reports. There was directive from the University Grants Commission on  March 5 and the State Government on March 16. Accordingly on March 17 at 10:30 am a meeting was conducted under the chairmanship of the Vice-Chancellor wherein it was decided to close the classes from March 18. Closing the classes would be meaningless, if the hostels remain running. Same crowding would be there in the hostels, especially in the mess. Thus, it was also agreed to close the hostels from 19th evening.  And accordingly all the boarders left. There was a gap of almost a week between RGU's order for closure of hostels and the subsequent Lock-down order from State Government. There was enough time, he added.
