PASIGHAT Apr 10:

Striving to protect their village from flood, the residents of Namsing village under Mebo Sub-Division have succeeded in raising a structure as a crust programme toward village side where erosion is taking place continuously. The structure is an improvised one where empty cement bags are filled with sand and raised as a slanting wall to swerve the follow of the river current.

The villagers had initially started the voluntary work to save their village by raising such flood control measures at major river current striking points at Tinimukh areas between Namsing and Seram village. However, pleased by their tenacity  and as a support to the crust programme, the local MLA cum Advisor to Chief Minister, Lombo Tayeng had sanctioned a sum of Rs. 2 lakhs and ADC, Mebo Yemling had issued Rs. 1 lakh from administration’s side. And during his recent developmental tour to the Namsing village, Mebo MLA had sanctioned additional Rs. 10 lakhs each at D. Ering Wildlife Sanctuary and Tarotamak side respectively besides adding another Rs. 7 lakhs in the ongoing crust programme making it a total of Rs. 10 Lakhs.

The fund support to the villagers’ noble work is paying off well, as they can now engage JCBs and others to speed up the flood control measures. According to the PRI leader sources like Kenedy Perme, Odakson Megu, ASM Namsing Sanggo(East), ASM Namsing Anggo (West) respectively and Dananjay Pangging, Chairman, Namsing Bachao Committee, the 13 days MGNREGA works were initially being executed there to control the yearly soil erosion by constructing flood control measures. However, the fund support from local MLA has boosted their morale and villagers are now speeding up the protection measures work before the onset of monsoon.
