ZIRO, Nov 25: To make an evaluation of the historical significance of Pamu Yalang, also known as the Hawk’s Rock which is considered to be a sacred landmark of the Apatanis situated on the Mando Hill of Bamin Michi village in Ziro Valley, a team of officials from the state’s Department of Research made a field visit to the place on Tuesday last.
The team comprising Senior Research Officer Pura Koji and Research Officers Kago Omo and Tadu Rinku made the visit after being invited by ‘Pamu Yalang Group’, a youth group of the village.
Pamu Yalang is famous for its ideal location as one can have a 180 degree view of the entire Ziro Valley. Legend has it that the rock once stood quite high, high enough for the hawks to build nests on it, but the fierce battle between the spirits named Asang Korlang and Aha Korlang shattered it into smaller pieces having separate names such as Gano Pede, Dukur Lyipo, Laru Maji and Laru Marku.
While Gano Pede is viewed as the symbolic representation of the female organ, Dukur Lypyio symbolises the male organ.
