PASIGHAT, Sep 3: An Indian keeled box turtle rescued by one Irik Rame from Debing village under Ruksin Circle in East Siang district was released at Sibiyamukh Range of D. Ering Wildlife Sanctuary today by Range Officer Domek Koyu.
The keeled box turtle (Cuora mouhotii syn. Pyxidea mouhotii) is a species of turtle belonging to the Geoemydidae family. Informing about the release of the turtle, the Range Officer said that on getting inputs of the turtle’s rescue he visited the village on Thursday morning and received it from Irik Rame, a villager who loves wildlife and extended the creature voluntarily to the wildlife department. After releasing the turtle, Koyu said he was thankful to the rescuer who despite being from a far-flung area took the initiative to hand it over to the department.
Meanwhile, RFO Domek Koyu has appealed to the people of the fringe villages of DEWS to come forward in helping the department in securing the sanctuary’s flora and fauna.
