PASIGHAT, Apr 30: A healthy female bear cub which was rescued from the jungles of Gueng lake area, some 7 km away from Riga Block under Siang district by a trekking team led by MLA 35 AC Pangin-Boleng, Ojing Tasing was today handed over to the Divisional Forest Officer of D. Ering Wildlife Sanctuary.
The 3-month old bear cub was handed over by one Daniel Jamoh from Yagrung village of East Siang district who was a member of the trekking team. “The cub was found stranded on the foot track and it seemed its mother had been killed by hunters. Hence we decided to rescue it and hand it over to the zoo authorities or wildlife department,” Tasing said and suggested the wildlife officials to keep its name as Gueng in tune with the name of the place of rescue.
DFO, DEWS Tasang Taga while appreciating the noble initiative informed the cub will now be sent to the Centre for Bear Rehabilitation and Conservation, Pakke Tiger Reserve, Seijosa on Saturday following the permission received from the PCCF and Chief Wildlife Warden.
