ITANAGAR, Nov 9: The All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) while stating that religious disharmony caused in the state due to the Tawang church issue is uncalled for, has professed to stand by the indigenous people of the state for the sake of protection of their age-old cultures and traditions.
In a press release issued on Monday, AAPSU said that religious narrowness should not be allowed to develop among the state’s people due to the Tawang church issue. “Indigenous people had their own faiths, religious practises, culture and traditions and there were no Hindu, Muslim, Christian etc. earlier and we lived in harmony. The church issue is depicting communal disharmony among the indigenous people of Arunachal Pradesh to the rest of the world,” the release mentioned. While observing that religious conversions have taken place in the state after independence, AAPSU asserted that Arunachal Pradesh is 100% tribal and there is an urgent need to uphold the virtue of respecting all religions which is a fundamental aspect of the indigenous culture.
The apex union of the state has appealed to the believers of all religions to maintain communal harmony and sort out the issue amicably without giving any religious colour. AAPSU PR
