ITANAGAR, Dec 8: Environment and Forest Minister Nabam Rebia inaugurated the Innovation Hub and Space Education Centre at IG Park here today amidst a huge gathering including local MLA Techi Kaso.
With the inauguration, the 3-day All India annual conference of heads of science centers/museums under the aegis of Arunachal Pradesh State Council for Science and Technology and Department of Science and Technology, got off to a colourful start.
In his address after the inaugural function, Rebia said that he was deeply enriched by the learned deliberations presented by the esteemed speakers and urged the students to take full advantage of the conference and also the facilities that were being made available to them at the science centre. While appealing to the young students to strive hard to become scientists, the minister told them that young Indians are shining all over the world in all spheres.
He opined that the science centre at Itanagar may be named after the former iconic Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee who had contributed so much for the nation. While replying to a demand by the chairman of Arunachal Pradesh State Council for Science and Technology Bamang Mangha, Rebia assured to provide land and forest clearance for construction of a proper road up to the science centre near the IG Park.
While warmly welcoming the participants from various parts of the country the minister hoped that the conference would be useful in formulating innovative ideas for growth of science in the state. Earlier, the minister along with other dignitaries lit the ceremonial lamp to mark the occasion.
In his thought-provoking keynote address, SM Khened, guest of honour, dwelt at length on the history and growth of science in the country since independence and threw light on the ups and downs faced by the scientists and the country during the formative years. He said that the green revolution brought about a revolution in the country that changed the whole scenario in terms of making India self-reliant in food production adding that this revolution was possible thanks to the favourable policies of the government and untiring effort of the scientists.
Khened told the large gathering that thanks to the immense contributions of the Indian scientists, India had made a giant leap forward in the fields of science and technology. While narrating the struggles made by the scientists all over the world to invent new things, he said that nothing could be achieved in the absence of passion and asked the young students to have passion aplenty to succeed in life.
Bamang Mangha, chairman of Arunachal Pradesh State Council for Science and Technology expressed his happiness over the creation of new and innovative assets that would help in creating awareness on importance of science among the young minds. He thanked the state government for rendering all possible assistance. The Secretary of Science and Technology department G.Ete said that the prime objective of the department was to spread awareness on importance and usefulness of science in everyday life adding that in the past people were not even aware of science.
