ITANAGAR, Oct 31: Governor Brig. (Dr.) BD Mishra (Retd.) led the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas celebration, which commemorates the birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, at Raj Bhavan, Itanagar on Sunday. Along with the First Lady of the State Neelam Misra, officials of Raj Bhavan and the ITBP troops, the Governor paid floral tributes to Sardar Patel.
Speaking on the occasion, the Governor said that Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was one of the greatest freedom fighters and the main uniting force of ‘Independent India’. Recalling the separatist tendencies of the Princely States of Hyderabad, Junagrah and Kashmir in the country after Independence in 1947, the Governor said that Sardar Patel with his courageous, resolute and well-timed decisions, successfully united different parts of the country into the Indian Union.
The Governor said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi introduced the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas on Sardar Patel’s birthday in 2014 to remind the people of India about our great nationalist, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. This Ekta Diwas is a reminder of Sardar Patel’s strong patriotism, ideals, values and beliefs, he said.
Mishra called upon the people to emulate the dedication and sacrifices of Sardar Patel and be inspired by his virtues and visions.
The Governor said that for development and progress of the Nation, the people have to be disciplined, united, follow the Constitution and the law and equally importantly, we have to perform the Fundamental Duties as enshrined in the Constitution of India. Sardar Patel always stood for the rule of law throughout his life, he said.
On the occasion of the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas, the Governor administered pledge to the officers and staff of Raj Bhavan and appealed to the people to live up to the Rashtriya Ekta pledge and asked them to act as a patriotic force for ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’.

Earlier in the morning, the Governor flagged off the ‘Run for Unity’ event to spread and promote spirit of unity and oneness amongst the people. Large number of people, including ITBP personnel participated in the run. Havaldar Lamb Dutta, Constable Walter Lakra, Constable Govind Das and Constable Md Muftar from ITBP received token prizes for coming first, second, third and fourth respectively in the ‘Run for Unity’ event.

Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar administered the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas Pledge in the premises of Block 2, Civil Secretariat Itanagar today. The pledge was administered to foster and reinforce the dedication to preserve and strengthen unity, integrity and security of our nation.
Senior officers, officials, staff and other employees of the Civil Secretariat were present to undertake the Pledge on the occasion of Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day).
The Regional Outreach Bureau, Ministry of I & B, Itanagar organised a special outreach programme to celebrated National Unity Day (Rashtriya Ekta Diwas) today at Govt. Middle School Niti Vihar, Itanagar.
On the occasion, the Rashtriya Ekta Pledge was administered to all the teachers and students. A theme based literary competitions like Essay writing & Painting Competition was conducted and attractive prizes were  awarded to the winners. 
Rajiv Gandhi University organized special cleanliness drives as part of Swachhta Mission at Doimukh market place and nearby area followed by ‘Run for Unity’ which saw the participation of more than 300 people, including sports personalities, students of NSS & NCC cell, RGU Faculty fraternities, administrative staff and students of RGU among others. There were displays of placards which call upon citizens to bring in unity, peace and brotherhood by following the ideals of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. The run culminated in the Wall of Heroes, RGU where a function was organized to commemorate the day. After reaching RGU Campus a floral tribute at wall of Heroes, RGU was organized and patriotic songs were sung by students of Department of Music, RGU .
The programme was jointly organized by EK Bharat Shrestha Bharat, NCC, NSS Cell and Department of Physical Education of the University. 
The West Siang District administration held a mini marathon race to commemorate the day. All took the Pledge and paid floral tributes to Sardar Vallabhai Patel.
