Deomali, Oct 19: A rare species of snake popularly known as the Burmese Python was rescued by a group of youths here from a residence in the township on the night of October 18 last.
The python which was rescued from the residence of one Kubang Aluk was handed over the next morning to the Deputy Ranger and I/c. Deomali Range H.D. Banik. The youths who were part of the rescue effort were Priyang Pumoh, Butwang Lowang and Teilon Matey. While handing over the Burmese Python, Pumoh who is also the Secretary of the All Tirap District Students’ Union (ATDSU) appealed all to preserve and protect the endangered wildlife species.
As per sources, the rescued python is around 8 feet in length having a weight of 6 kgs. The I/c. Deomali Range while appreciating the youths for their efforts in wildlife protection said it’s worth emulating by the district and state’s people. DIPRO
