ITANAGAR, Apr 1: Thousands of people joined the candlelight vigil held at different locations like Bordumsa & Kharsang in Changlang district and in Itanagar demanding justice for the 25-year-old gild who was allegedly raped and murdered in Kharsang.
Speaking to reporters, General Secretary TCLNSU, Hongkhil Tekhil claimed the victim was mercilessly raped and later murdered by the accused.
He also said that such act can't be executed by both accused and suspected involvement of more people in the case. Hence, we demand SIT to investigate the case and arrest the other accomplices.
Addressing the gathering at Itanagar, Vice President All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union, Meje Taku appealed to the Department of Home to immediately intervene into the matter so that justice is provided to the victim and the family members.
Expressing strong resentment over such crime in the state, he also appealed the state government to make a strong law to deal with such cases and all trials of such heinous crimes should only be tried in Fast-track courts.
Former student leader, Biru Nasi said that rape and murder cases have been increasing in the state due to slack laws and delayed punishment.
He said prompt judgment and accordingly serving punishment without any delay in such cases will send a strong message to deter such crimes in future.
"Lawmakers should not encourage such crimes by delaying in giving justice to the victim and their families. Justice delayed is Justice denied, therefore lawmakers should try such crimes through fast track courts so that cases are not delayed," he said.
Simultaneously rally was also organized at Kharsang and Bordumsa where thousands of people joined the march. Different organizations , NGOs, CBOs and also pressure groups from Assam participated in the rally demanding exemplary punishment for the culprits involved in the crime.
