ITANAGAR, Sep 28: Minister for Sports & Youth Affairs, Mama Natung inaugurated the Dorjee Khandu Badminton Stadium in presence of MLA,Itanagar- Techi Kaso, Advisor to PWD cum MLA- Phurpa Tsering, Mayor IMC and corporators of different wards here on Tuesday.
Earlier, State Government dedicated and renamed the Raj Bhavan Badminton Stadium as  Dorjee Khandu Indoor Badminton Stadium (DKIBS) to honour the former Chief Minister late Dorjee Khandu for his contribution towards badminton in the state.
Recalling the late leader's contribution, Natung  said that late Dorjee Khandu was a visionary leader, who not only brought many developments in the form of big projects like  Trans Arunachal Highway, New Civil Secretariat Building and MLA cottage-Chimpu but also had a love for development of sports.
"Like father, like son, Chief Minister Pema Khandu is also committed to sports and youth affairs and he has advised the department and its officials to give more focus to sports and players  so that in the next Olympic event, Arunachal can bring medal for India," the minister said.
We have potential in every event of sports; therefore department is working hard to bring good coaches to guide our players. Moreover, I am sure that with dedication and proper guidance Arunachal will soon become the Sporting hub of the country, Natung said.
Recalling his moments with late Khandu, MLA Kaso, urged the youths to use the stadium maintaining the discipline of the sports. He also urged the Minister and state government to allocate funds for refurbishing the stadium to a RCC Hall with more facilities.
Mayor –IMC Tame Phassang who is also the President of the DKIBS, extended appreciation to the state government for dedicating the stadium in the name of form Chief Minister.
Meanwhile, Minister Sports, Mayor -Tame Phassang and others also played friendly badminton matches to mark the day and to share the message of Fit India.
