TUTING, Jun 19: Several places of Tuting area in Upper Siang district are currently facing a flood-like situation due to incessant rain for the last couple of days.
Besides landslides that have resulted in loss of properties and disruption of surface communication; all nallahs and rivers of the area are flooded with rain water. Major landslides and flood in Pekong village on June 17 severely damaged a house, triggering the possibility of further floods and landslides during the current monsoon. To assess the extent of damage, a team comprising ZPM Tuting Tachik Dugong, ZPM Gelling-Singa Pema Lapchi, GPC Pekong Sonam Doima, CO Tuting Yapi Gongo, HGB and officers of WRD department inspected the area and prepared a damage report for further submission to the state government. However, there was no report of any casualty.
Both the ZPMs have assured to take up the matter with Health Minister Alo Libang who is also the MLA of 34 Tuting-Yingkiong assembly constituency for necessary assistance to the victims. The WRD has been urged to take up flood protection measures urgently to protect Pekong village from further landslides and floods. A representation by Ex. ASM Tuting Ledup Dorjee and villagers seeking prompt flood protection measures has also been submitted to the Additional Deputy Commissioner of the district.
Senior leader of Tuting, Nima Sangey has appealed to the state government to provide immediate relief to the flood-affected victims of Pekong and initiate flood protection works in the village.
