Raga, Apr 25: The first MLA of Raga Assembly Constituency Nido Techi passed away at 2 pm on Saturday afternoon in his hometown Tamen under Kamle district.
State Legislative Assembly Speaker Pasang D Sona has deeply mourned the demise of the former MLA. In his condolence message, the Speaker said that late Nido Techi was an experienced and committed leader who made important contributions towards development of the state. “In the demise of Nido Techi, the state has lost a prominent political leader and a great Arunachalee citizen,” Sona stated, conveying his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and praying to the Almighty for eternal peace of the departed soul.
In his condolence message, the present Raga MLA Tarin Dakpe said Kamle has lost an illustrious son who served the district in various capacities.
Late Nido Techi contested to the 25th Raga Constituency with a Janata Party ticket in 1978 and won the election and took oath as first MLA of Raga on March 23, 1978 under the then government headed by P K Thungon, the first Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh. Belonging to the Nido community, Nido Techi was born in 1945 in the remotest village in Raga area in Lellen village and was the son of Lt. Nido Teshi. All throughout his life, he contributed tremendously to the development of Raga. At the age of 10 in 1955 he was admitted to Class-I in the then Government Primary School Ziro (Hapoli), the district headquarters of Lower Subansiri district and studied up to Class-VIII, after which he joined as a Village Level Worker (VLW) in 1963.
His political career started as a Member of the Pradesh Council (MPC) after late Bei Temi in the year 1972. In 1969, the Agency Council, an apex advisory body for governance of the NEFA came into existence with the Governor of Assam as its Chairman and the Agency Council was replaced by the Pradesh Council on October 2, 1972. After getting elected to the first Legislative Assembly elections in 1978 as the first MLA of the Raga AC, he continued serving the state in various capacities including as Chairman of the Estimates Committee under first Chief Minister PK Thungon. He also worked and was closely associated with Chief Minister Gegong Apang as an MLA. During this tenure, people of Raga treated him as a Godfather and he was widely respected.
He left behind 5 sons and 3 daughters, of which eldest son, Nido Pavitra also became an MLA for two terms during 2004 and 2014.
