PASIGHAT, Mar 27:  Public awareness campaign on domestic violence can educate community members about the prevalence of abuse and will encourage people to take action to end abuse to lead healthy family and social life, stated Deputy Commissioner Tamiyo Tatak on Sunday while attending a daylong awareness camp on domestic violence, held at the Siang Guest House, organized by the DD(ICDS) Ponung Ering Angu.

 Citing that the government’s fight against crime will be successful when people are and able to feel safe in their homes, their places of work and their communities,  he said that the administration is duty-bound to protect the health and wellbeing of all citizens and to ensure that all people feel safe in all aspects of their lives. 

‘Contributions of NGOs like ABK (WW), WASE etc in building a bright, alcohol and drug-free and safe future for present and future generations deserves appreciations,’ the DC added.

 ICDS Dy. Director, Angu highlighted the key feature of PWDV Act 2005 including roles and responsibilities of VOs/NGOs and service providers under the Act. Counsellor (DMO Office) Dani Yakang spoke on the ill effects of domestic violence on children and way and means to tackle them by society. Prominent lawyer Mary Tatak delivered lecture on sensitive issues like sexual harassment at workplace and prevention, prohibition and redressal provides under Act 2103. DIPRO
