ITANAGAR, Sep 6: Chief Minister Pema Khandu today inspected the proposed construction of four lane national highway-415 from Naharlagun to Banderdewa of Package B and C respectively along with the highway construction agency and other officials.
Speaking to reporters, Khandu said that his visit was to survey the prevailing condition of the road from Naharlagun to Banderdewa. He said complaints about the pathetic condition of the road by the public on various social media platforms prompted the visit.
“We have physically inspected the condition of the road of the entire stretch. Accordingly, there was a discussion with the highway construction authority to solve the problem,” he said.
Khandu also informed that the tender of 11.3 km of Package-B of road from Naharlagun to Nirjuli has been completed.  However, the appointed date of work will be issued by the concerned DC after the completion of land acquisition, he added.
Speaking on the Package-C of NH 415 from Nirjuli to Banderdewa, Khandu said the total distance is around 7.3 km, in which a viaduct of around 1.1 km is also being constructed.
He said that the land acquisition of Package-C is completed and the appointed date has also been provided to the contractor. So, hopefully the construction work of the same stretch will commence at the earliest.
“Now, the major concern is about the maintenance of the road. As per the guidelines, the concerned contractor of Package-C will be working on the maintenance of the present road,” he said, adding that, however, the maintenance of Package-B, especially from Lekhi to Nirjuli can’t be started as the appointed date has not been handed over to the contractor.
He said to ensure public convenience, the highway department as well as the contractors have been directed to at least make the road motorable for the public passage in the stretch of Package B and C by the end of September this year.
Khandu informed that the underpass and two bridges at Chandranagar, Itanagar will be completed by September. He also said that the bridge over Borum village and Railway station will be completed by March, 2022.
He also informed the sector roads within ICR are targeted to be completed by 2024.
