PASIGHAT, Jul 24: Intensive vigilance to nab the dreaded hunters by the field patrolling squads of Borguli Wildlife Range under D. Ering Memorial Wildlife Sanctuary finally paid off on Friday evening with the arrest of 3 from Kanyakumari area.
The arrested trio have been identified as Makyon Modi (46), Harish Saroh (32) and Sunil Pait (40), all from Namsing village under Mebo Sub-Division. This was informed by the Range Officer, Borguli Wildlife Range Naning Perme. Of the arrested hunters, Makyon Modi is a habitual offender who earlier gave an undertaking to the PA Manager/DFO to refrain from hunting inside the sanctuary and Harish Saroh is also a most-wanted hunter. A case has been registered against them vide Pasighat PS Case No. 88/2021 U/S 447/144/34 IPC R/W Sec/27(1)of Arms Act, R/W Sec/57(1) of Wildlife Protection Act 1972.
Divisional Forest Officer, D. Ering Wildlife Sanctuary Tasang Taga informed that the hunters have been under watch of his patrolling team for long, adding that some elderly persons from Namsing village were also lending their guns to the hunters and misusing the WRD Pasighat boat used in flood control measures.
The DFO has appealed to the people of the fringe villages to cooperate with the department in protecting the rich flora and fauna of the sanctuary.
