MAHADEVPUR, Nov 28: Continuing its 48-hour Lekang Constituency bandh, hundreds of protesters blocked the Dirak Check gate and burnt effigies of Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein today.
Protesters are demanding Permanent Residence Certificate (PRC) for all those who are residing in Lekang Constituency since ages. Holding placards and banners, protesters shouted slogans against Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein.
‘PRC is our birth right, so our protest will not stop here. It will continue till we get concrete decision,’ said President of the United Peoples Movement of Lekang, Ratan Chetia.
Despite our protest no authority has come to hear our grievances, not even the Deputy Commissioner Namsai,’ he claimed.
‘If at all Arunachal government don’t want to confer PRC to the people of Lekang then we are ready to merge with Assam and the present Check post should be shifted to Tengapani some 30Km inside the present location,’ added another protester who didn’t want to be named .
Meanwhile, protesters also threatened that till the PRC issue is solved, no election process will be allowed in the Lekang constituency under Namsai district.
