DOIMUKH, Dec 20: The Pare Project Land Affected Welfare Committee has demanded regularization of services of 48 employees working in the project for the last three years.
In this regard, the affected employees along with their parents and family members staged a sit-in protest today and raised slogans against NEEPCO authority's apathy to their long-standing demands.
Addressing the media, PPLAWC, President, Gamar Kuka said that they have been fighting against the NEEPCO authority for their rights and privileges since the inception of the project.
“The concerned authorities extended our contract service rather than regularizing our jobs. They are taking our demands very casually,” he said. Kuka also said that similar protests were held in the past but their voices went unheard.
Referring to an agreement made between NEEPCO and the land-affected people before the project started, he stated that NEEPCO agreed to give regular jobs to 48 youths from land-affected families undergoing ITI training. But instead of giving regular appointment, the youths were given a two-year service contract which was later extended for another year.
Informing that the contract service of 48 employees will end on January 30, 2020, Committe's secretary, Dr. Bengia Tada said that this time they want complete regularization and will not accept further extension of their contractual work.
"We want the high-level authority to come forward and give us a clear decision, otherwise we will continue our democratic movement," he said.
Meanwhile, the committee gave a deadline of January 30, 2020 to respond to their demands and threatened to intensify their agitation if they fail to meet their demands.
