TAWANG, Sep 28: A marathon one day Legal Awareness Programme was held today here at the Conference Hall of DC’s office by the Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women (APSCW).
HoDs, members of Women’s Welfare Association (WWA) Tawang, NGOs, GBs, officials and students attended the programme which contained topics such as customary law and practices in Arunachal Pradesh with special emphasis on land and marriage, marriage laws, skill development (industrial & vocational training) and various government schemes for Women, POCSO Act, drug abuse /alcoholism, breast & cervical cancer/maternal health etc. There were discourses on diverse topics like powers & functions of APSCW, law relating to women & sexual harassment at work place, domestic violence, functions of Women NGOs, SHGs etc. Chairperson APSCW Advocate Radhilu Chai Techi discussed about various social evils like dowry, rape, polygamy and urged upon WWA, Tawang to work for the welfare of women of the district. Further, she stressed that government should consult the Commission on all policy matters affecting the state’s women from time to time.
Commission member Techi Hunmai spoke about APSCW functioning, Advocate Likha Joya on domestic violence and Hoksum Ori discussed about the functions of Women NGOs & Self Help Groups.

Advocate Karmu Chotten gave Power Point Presentation on law relating to women & sexual harassment at work place. DPO, Tawang Sangha Babung highlighted the Skill Development schemes of government for women and JMFC, Tawang Damge Niri spoke about customary practises in Arunachal Pradesh with special emphasis on land and marriage. SP, Tawang Sagar Singh Kalsi, District Coordinator, District Tobaco Control Programme Sang Dorjee Dirkhipa also spoke on the occasion. DIPRO
