ITANAGAR, Jul 27: The Private Schools and Children Welfare Association Arunachal Unit (PS & CWAAU) has appealed to the state government to allow resumption of offline classes in the state from August 1 next.
Addressing a press conference here at the Press Club today, PS&CWAAU President Yowa Bullet urged the state government to issue notification for re-opening of schools for offline classes, particularly for standard 8 to 12 from August 1, reasoning that online classes are not adequate enough for a quality teaching-learning process. Online classes are not only proving to be a threat to the delivery of quality education, but also badly affecting the functioning of the education system, the PS&CWAAU President said, adding that it has left most of the private schools under financial despair.
“Except educational institutions, all other means of assembly have been allowed to resume, then why are we not allowed to resume offline classes,” Bullet questioned while informing that it has been two years since the doors of the schools have remained shut due to Covid-19 pandemic, causing untold problems to the private schools and its teachers. Detailing the financial difficulties faced by the private schools, he informed that their managements are unable to pay salary to their staff, unlike the government staff who are not facing the problem. “Even though the schools are closed we are not exempted from paying building rent, electricity, water supply and many other bills,” he added.

Meanwhile, PS&CWAAU General Secretary Jumta Hankar has suggested re-opening of offline classes, particularly of standard 8 to 12 in a phase-wise manner with strict maintenance of Covid protocols.
When online classes are not possible in the remote parts of the Capital Region, one can imagine what would be the condition of children living in the remote areas of the state where there is no internet connectivity, Hankar said, adding that it is not possible for every parent to purchase a smartphone for their children. He also said that in absence of regular classes, children are wasting their precious time and staring at smartphone screens for a long duration during online classes is causing eye problems.
A representation has been submitted to the Education Minister by the Association seeking his intervention in resuming offline classes on the day, the PS&CWAAU President informed.
