ITANAGAR, Jun 18: After evading the police net for almost four weeks, the prime accused in the minor’s assault case, Lukbi Bojir on Thursday finally surrendered before the police near Padumoni under North Lakhimpur district in Assam.
After the surrender, Seijosa police arrested Bojir who was absconding since May 26 last.
Speaking to the media, Superintendent of Police, Pakke Kesang Habung Hailyang informed that after a series of attempts to escape arrest like filing of anticipatory bail and hiding at a stretch in unknown locations, Bojir had finally ‘thrown in the towel’. He has been taken under police remand for the next seven days when the investigation team will interrogate him. Moreover, the police will try their best to file a strong charge sheet as soon as possible, the SP informed while appreciating the Investigation Officer Inspector Padi Payang and his team for making all-out efforts to arrest the accused and personally visiting the court in Bomdila to oppose the anticipatory bail plea with strong explanations.
Meanwhile, refuting all allegations levelled against Bojir, one of his relatives who reached Seijosa PS appealed to the police to conduct a free and fair investigation. “Bojir has claimed he is not involved in any of the atrocities against the eight-year-old minor girl. However the state’s media and the social media in particular have already convicted him, whereas investigation is yet to be started,” he added while appealing to people to stop the social media trial.
Accused Lukbi Bojir is an Elementary Teacher and permanent resident of  Tirbin town under Lepa Rada district and was evading arrest since May 26 after the assault case came to light. A case was initially registered under u/s 363/326/34 of the IPC r/w section 75 of the JJB Act and section 14 of the Bonded Labour Act at Women Police Station Itanagar which was later transferred to Pakke Kesang PS.
