TEZU, Jan 5: The 3rd Priest Conference organized by the Mishmi Indigenous Culture and Faith Promotion Society (MICAFPS) was conducted here at the IGG College auditorium on January 4-5 attended by over hundred delegates and 95 priests from Anjaw and Lohit districts.
President MICAFPS Badamso Tayang exhorted the Mishmi community to come forward and work in preserving the rich heritage and rituals which is the real identity of a tribe.
Senior Priest of Galo community and Adviser IFCSAP Tabin Karlo as Guest of Honour expressed the necessity to bring reforms in rituals according to change of time and appealed youths to play active roles in addressing social issues and work for protection of environment.
CE PHED (Retired) Lupalum Kri pleaded all to join hands in scripting and documenting the age-old rituals for posterity.
In the inaugural day as Chief Guest, DC Anjaw Dagbam Riba commended the MICAFPS members for their dedicated work in preserving and promoting the age-old rituals which are on the verge of extinction and urged the community to strengthen the rich cultural heritage and spiritual values embedded in traditions.
On the occasion, 3rd edition of the Mishmi Prayer Book (TAA – ATHAP/Wingya) was released. Several priests participated on six topics raised during the two-day conference which were- role of Shammon/Priest at Tanchow Klumya, duration of pujas and rituals, encouragement of traditional beverage, observation of social taboos, avoiding wasteful expenditures and general rules & procedures of major rituals.
Besides senior leader Sotai Kri and Chairman CAMSOM Bafrengso Pul, AMWWS unions members, NGOs, senior citizens and government officials actively participated in the conference.
