Itanagar, Jun 25:  With the aim of tackling diarrhoea, the simple yet lethal disease causing deaths of children, the district administrations have started conducting coordination meetings prior to the launch of  the fortnight long intensified diarrhoea control programme.
The District Level Coordination cum Orientation on Intensified Diarrhoea Control Fortnight (IDCF-2019) was organized by East Siang District Health Society at DC Conference Hall in Pasighat where emphasis was laid on the proactive roles of the stakeholders to achieve ‘Zero Child Deaths due to Childhood Diarrhoea’.
DMO cum IDCF Nodal Officer, East Siang, Dr. Kaling Dai stressed on proper implementation of all activities of focus areas during IDCF 2019 to be observed from June 28 to July 11 next. These are distribution of ORS and administration of Zinc tablets to Under Five Children (U5) to combat dehydration due to diarrhoea, coverage of all houses, awareness activities, proper sanitation, safe drinking water, disinfection of water sources, hand-washing demonstrations in schools, etc. Soon to be introduced Rota Virus Vaccine will be effective in preventing cases of life-threatening cases of Rota Virus vaccine, he added.
He also asked the respective Medical Officers In-charges of PHCs and CHCs, Block Community Mobilizers, Health workers, ANMs, ASHAs to maintain timeline of IDCF implementation in reducing incidence of diarrhoeal cases. He further instructed the MOs to entrust ANMs and ASHAs to visit every house, particularly vulnerable areas so that no child is left out during the fortnight long IDCF. Earlier, DRCHO, Dr. T. Gao, while giving an overview on IDCF and its objectives under National Health Policy in his PPT said that childhood diarrhoeal diseases particularly during summer and monsoon become life threatening to Under Five children. As dehydration is the main cause of diarrhoeal deaths, DRCHO said that the target is to increase ORS and Zinc coverage to 90% by 2025 from 50.6%. 

Medical Superintendent, BPGHP, Dr. Y R Darrang, Deputy Director, ICDS, Ponung Ering Angu, AE PHE, T Padung, DANO, Dr.N. Ratan, MO In-charges of PHCs/CHCs, Health Centres and others attended the meeting.
In Yupia a one day District Level Workshop-cum District Level Coordination Meeting on IDCF was conducted under the chairmanship of DPO (NCD) cum DSO (IDSP) DNCD Cell Yupia DR. R.R.Ronya.
DDSE Dr. Tana Natung presented a PPT on IDCF and said that the main aim of IDCF is to reduce infant and child mortality caused by diarrhoea.  EE, PHED Yupia while expressing his regret for not being able to supply clean water especially during monsoon/rainy season, said that unless the problem of siltation is solved it will not be possible to provide clean water during rainy day. I/c Deputy Director WCD requested the program organizer i.e. District Health Society, Yupia to keep in touch with the CDPOs of the concerned blocks before and during implementation of IDCF program in the district for a positive outcome.
A detailed discussion on child death review and maternal death review and as well as family planning was conducted by the two Resource Persons Dr. Tana Natung and DRCHO, Yupia.
The workshop was attended by Chief Medical Superintendent TRIMS DR. Hage Ambing, NO-MCH NHM Tado Hukam, Medical Officers from various PHCs and CHCs of Papum Pare district.
