ITANAGAR, Dec 3: The People’s Party of Arunachal (PPA) has suspended its sitting MLA of the 28-Likabali AC, Kardo Nicyor on charges of anti-party activities.
Announcing the decision through a press release issued today, the lone regional political party of the state said it took the drastic step to be applicable with immediate effect based on authentic proof and as a pre-emptive measure to thwart defections of any kind, a feature now common in state politics and bolster a strong opposition bench. While stating that the PPA has been a sufferer time and again due to defections, the release categorically asserted the party is in no mood to suffer the same.
Underscoring the importance of having a strong regional political party in Arunachal Pradesh, the PPA said it has been the silent voice for safeguarding the fragile interests of the indigenous people through relentless demands for constitutional correction of the decades-old defective Arunachal Statehood Act, 1987. It lamented that the people of the state are failing to realise the pressing issues like the continued need of the Bengal Eastern Regulation 1873, which unfortunately still now is not a full-fledged statue.
“It is high time the younger generation, comprising primarily of educated youths realize the importance of having a strong regional political party in the state,” the release read. PPA PR
